The answer

It is not permissible for a man to humiliate or harm a woman, exploiting her weakness. This is contrary to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) warning against mistreating women. If she is a wife, the matter is even more serious due to the strong covenant, and he is commanded to treat her kindly. The wife should seek the reason for her husband's mistreatment; if the shortcoming is hers, she should try to rectify it, and if it is his, she should advise him and remind him of the seriousness of the matter, while supplicating for him. If she needs the intervention of wise people, there is no harm in that. If the situation does not improve, she has the right to seek divorce. Bearing patiently with him for the sake of the children is rewarded, but if the situation becomes unbearable, separation is preferable.
