The question

What is the ruling on marrying a Muslim woman who has no Muslim guardian—given that her family are Christians—provided that one of the Muslims acts as her guardian and with the presence of two witnesses, bearing in mind that the marriage will not be officially documented because it cannot be documented in the country where the suitor resides except after procedures that take months, and the woman has a tourist visa, meaning her stay is temporary?

The answer

If a Muslim woman has no Muslim guardian (wali) and there is no Muslim ruler (sultan), she should appoint a just man to conduct her marriage. However, the questioner is advised to be cautious of violating the laws of the land to avoid legal accountability, and perhaps Allah will guide each party to a righteous marriage without hardship.
