All explicit hadiths regarding the recommendation of foreplay before intercourse are weak and not established. However, some authentic hadiths can be used as inferential support in this regard. A group of scholars has gone to the extent of recommending foreplay before intercourse, citing the : "Why not a young maiden whom you can play with and who can play with you?" They justified this by saying that a woman desires from a man what he desires from her, and neglecting this could lead to her not enjoying it and potentially being tempted. A man must be gentle with his wife and not approach her abruptly.
