The answer

The method of marriage among Arabs during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) was inherited from the religion of Abraham, and Islam affirmed many aspects of it. This is evident from the marriage of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to Khadijah before his prophethood. Khadijah herself proposed to him due to his kinship, esteemed status, excellent character, and truthful speech. He then mentioned this to his uncles, whereupon Hamza went and proposed on his behalf to her father, Khuwaylid ibn Asad, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married her.

Thereafter, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would hold a wedding feast () for his marriages, as he did in his marriage to Safiyyah, where he made her manumission her dowry and held a walimah for her with hais (dates without pits, mixed with dried yogurt or flour or saweeq).
