The answer

If the revocable divorced woman's waiting period () has not expired, it is sufficient to say "I take you back" or any phrase indicating reconciliation to return her to your marital bond. It is also recommended to have witnesses for the reconciliation. However, if her iddah has expired, or if the divorce was irrevocable (such as a divorce before consummation or an irrevocable divorce for compensation), then a new marriage contract and a new dowry are required. If the divorce was an irrevocable major divorce (the third divorce), she does not become lawful for you until she marries another man willingly and he consummates the marriage with her, then he divorces her, and her waiting period from him expires. Only then can you marry her with a new contract and a new dowry. The iddah expires after three complete menstrual cycles, or upon giving birth for a pregnant woman, or after three months for those who do not menstruate or have despaired of menstruation. The menstrual cycle in which the divorce occurred is not counted as part of the iddah.
