Is it permissible for the suitor to look at the face of his fiancée, who wears the niqab, after they have agreed to marry?

The basic principle is the prohibition of a man looking at the face of a woman who is a stranger to him. The suitor is a stranger to his fiancée. However, the Sharia (definition) permits him to look at her out of necessity, so if she pleases him, he proceeds, or he declines. He is allowed to repeat the gaze until the matter becomes clear to him. Once he decides on the engagement or not, the ruling reverts to prohibition, because there is no longer a permissible reason after that until he contracts the marriage. The looking must be limited to what is necessary; if a single glance suffices, anything beyond that becomes forbidden. It is not permissible for the suitor to repeatedly visit the fiancée's family without necessity. If he decides on the engagement or acceptance, he should hasten to contract the marriage to remove awkwardness and prevent sin.
