Is it permissible to divorce a wife who insults her husband's mother and disobeys her husband regarding good treatment or other matters, such as wearing the niqab, especially since he stipulated before marriage that she be kind to his mother and that she would live with him? Would the husband be sinful for divorcing her? And is she entitled to receive all her financial rights despite her bad companionship?

The wife's mistreatment of her husband's mother is an ugly trait, and the husband should continue to advise his wife gently, reminding her of Allah and the importance of good treatment towards in-laws and obedience to him. Divorcing the wife is permissible when there is a need that necessitates it, but it is advised not to rush into divorce and to try to reform her. If the husband stipulated before the marriage contract that the wife would live with his mother and she agreed, then she is obliged to fulfill the condition unless she is harmed. The divorced woman has the right to maintenance and housing during the waiting period (iddah (definition)) if the divorce is revocable, and to her deferred dower if its term has become due. The husband is not allowed to diminish any of her rights.
