The relationship between a young man and a young woman before the marriage contract is impermissible. Marriage is not valid without the woman's guardian (wali). Furthermore, prohibiting a relationship with a fiancée is even more paramount, as it constitutes an infringement upon the suitor's right. It is not permissible for anyone to ask a fiancée to break off her engagement.
