What are the correct procedures to follow for marriage, and must one know the person well before marrying them?
The distribution of provisions, whether wealth or poverty, health or sickness, marriage or otherwise, is from Allah's decree. The Muslim who understands this finds peace in their heart from envy and worry, knowing that their provision is predetermined and will reach them. What is required of them is to fear Allah, steadfastly adhere to His commands, and seek provision honorably by pursuing what is lawful. A girl's going out and her relationships are not a cause for the provision of marriage.
As for getting to know a young man before marriage, the reality is that this type of acquaintance does not guarantee a successful marriage and often leads to failure. It is dangerous for the girl because the young man may be deceitful, causing the girl to lose everything. It suffices to inquire about his religiosity, character, family, educational, and social standing, followed by a short engagement and then the marriage contract. True knowledge of a couple's character is only attained after marriage.
