How can one get to know the girl he wishes to associate with in a sound manner and with the knowledge of both families?

A Muslim should choose a righteous, loving, and fertile wife who will help him in his devotion to Allah. He is permitted to look at her with the intention of proposing, even without her knowledge. However, after the proposal and before the marriage contract, the suitor is not allowed to shake her hand, be alone with her, or establish relationships with her, because she is still a stranger to him. Such relationships are forbidden and are a means to commit what Allah has prohibited. Marriage is the only way to establish a proper relationship built on affection and mercy.
