The question

What is the ruling on one who frequently doubts the occurrence of divorce to the extent of taking the most cautious approach in every issue in which he is given a fatwa that it did not occur? And what is the ruling on one who does not remember the wording of the divorce he uttered during the argument, and does this divorce take effect? And is seeking permission by phone considered valid permission to go out if the husband did not specify how permission should be sought?

The answer

Divorce does not occur based on doubt, because the default is the continuation of the marriage. If you are certain that you uttered an explicit divorce formula or an allusive one with the intention of divorce, then divorce has occurred, even if you do not remember the exact wording. However, if you are not certain, then divorce has not occurred. What you said to your wife, "If you leave without my permission, there will be something other than beating," has been answered previously. Do not be hard on yourself, avoid obsessive thoughts, and seek help from Allah.
