But if you swore by it believing you were truthful in what you swore about, the preponderant opinion is that you are not liable for breaking an oath or for divorce, because it falls under the ruling of a baseless oath (yamin (definition) laghw), meaning you did not intend falsehood but rather spoke based on your assumption, as stated in the fatwas of Sheikh Ibn Baz.
