What is the ruling on the parents remaining together, when the son explicitly heard his father divorce his mother more than three times, and the father is seeking the help of scholars to invalidate the divorce, while the mother is indifferent? And does honoring one's parents conflict with raising this issue in order to preserve legal rights such as inheritances?

When a man divorces his wife three times, she becomes irrevocably separated from him (bainunah kubra), and it is not permissible for him to take her back unless she marries another man. If the divorce occurred under duress or unconsciousness, the ruling differs. And whoever issues a fatwa (definition) permitting reconciliation after the third divorce without a new marriage has permitted what Allah has forbidden. It is incumbent upon the children to advise their parents regarding this matter and clarify its unlawfulness.
