Is a husband permitted to prevent his wife from visiting her sister because the sister's husband is Shi'ite, despite him allowing visits to his Druze relatives and his Shi'ite sister, and is he entitled to hit her because of that?
Husband and wife should strive for a good relationship and resolve their problems through dialogue and understanding. It is not permissible for a husband to prevent his wife from visiting her relatives unless there is a clear harm in the visit. However, if he prevents her, she must obey him, and he may be sinful for doing so. It is not permissible for a husband to beat his wife except in cases of insubordination, and only after admonition and abandonment, and the beating must not be severe. It is the wife's right to have her own separate dwelling, and she is not obliged to live with her husband's mother, but there is no harm in visiting the husband's mother.
