Is a wife considered disobedient (nashiz) if she does not respond to her husband and does not carry out his non-burdensome requests? And must the husband give her her deferred dower? And is it forbidden for him to pressure her (yu'dhilaha) to seek divorce and relinquish part of the dower or the deferred dower?

Spouses must live together in kindness. A wife must obey her husband in what is right. If she is obedient to him, he is not permitted to oppress her to make her ransom herself from him. But if she is disobedient (nashiz), then he may oppress her until she forfeits some of her rights to him. The deferred dowry (sadaq) is a debt owed by the husband, and disobedience (nushuz) does not waive it. It must be paid to the wife upon its due date or upon separation by divorce or death, unless the woman waives it.
