Is it permissible for a person suffering from psychological ailments (such as shyness, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or fear of not being able to bear the responsibilities of marriage) to get married?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Psychological illnesses have varying degrees: some are mild, treated behaviorally, and do not require medication; others are severe, like schizophrenia, which necessitates medication. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a specialized psychiatrist or psychological counselor.
You can get married. You must belittle intrusive thoughts and shyness, and proceed with marriage without hesitation, while having a good opinion of Allah, supplicating, seeking help from close ones, and abandoning succumbing to delusions. Indeed, Allah will not forsake you.
