The question

Is the husband bound by an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin) after telling his wife: "If you work on the machine, you are irrevocably divorced with a final and irreversible divorce"? And does the divorce take effect as one pronouncement or three if she works on the machine? And is it permissible for the wife to only cut the fabric for clothes without sewing it with the machine?

The answer

The majority of jurists hold that swearing an oath by divorce results in divorce upon breaking the oath, and this is the prevailing , contrary to Ibn Taymiyyah, who considers it an expiation for an oath.

Regarding (an irrevocable divorce, no return): it is said that it counts as three divorces, and it is also said that it counts as one. Ibn Taymiyyah held that a triple divorce does not occur with a single utterance.

Determining what the oath entails refers back to the intention of the swearer, or to the reason that prompted the oath.
