The answer

The default is for a woman to remain in her home, with the man responsible for her financial support. It is permissible for a woman to work if she needs to, in accordance with legitimate Islamic guidelines, and with the husband's permission, unless she stipulated working before marriage, or he knew of her desire to work and consented to it. The husband has the right to prevent his wife from working, and he has the right to stipulate to whomever he marries that she not work. A woman has the right to refuse a husband who prevents her from working if she deems it beneficial. It is preferable for a woman to prioritize her Islamic duty of staying in her home and caring for her husband and children. If she can find a marriage that combines this with treating women, then that is excellent. Otherwise, she should prioritize the religious and social benefit of early marriage and choose a husband of good character.
