What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding the dispute that occurred between the husband and wife and her father and mother, which led to the wife's request for divorce and her father's authorization to divorce her?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If the wife seeks a divorce without a valid reason or due to incitement from her family, the husband may refuse to divorce her until she relinquishes some of her rights. The husband's statement to his wife, "If you wish to divorce yourself, then do so," is a delegation of the divorce to her, but this delegation becomes void if he retracts it. It is advisable to involve wise individuals to mediate reconciliation between the spouses, or to agree upon a divorce if reconciliation is not possible.
