Is it permissible to give the fidyah for my mother's fasting - who is unable to fast - to her children and their children as an iftar meal, or for the iftar of students in a class?

The expiatory payment (fidyah (definition)) for not fasting, due to old age or an incurable illness, must not be given to the rich, nor to those whose maintenance is obligatory upon the one paying the fidyah, such as ascendants (parents, grandparents) and descendants (children, grandchildren). However, if the mother is unable to provide for them due to her limited financial means, then it is permissible to give them from the fidyah. In this case, giving it to them will be considered as feeding a poor person (iftar (definition) sa'im miskin), which is religiously acceptable and for which reward is hoped.
