Praying inside the Kaaba is desirable (mustahabb), as it has been reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed inside it. As for i'tikaf (spiritual retreat) inside the Kaaba, there is a difference of opinion: some scholars hold that it is not permissible, while others consider it permissible, on the basis that it is a mosque and because supererogatory prayers are allowed within it.
