What is incumbent upon a woman who, for several years, broke her fast on most days of Ramadan, ignorantly, with a valid excuse, and without a valid excuse, and did not make up those days and cannot determine their number? And is it obligatory for her to fast along with feeding [the poor], and what is the form of feeding [the poor]?

A woman who missed fasts after reaching puberty must repent to Allah and make up for the missed fasts. She should continue fasting until she is reasonably certain that she has made up for what she owes, especially if she is unsure of the exact number or has forgotten it. If she delays making up the fasts without a valid excuse until the next Ramadan (definition) begins, she must make up the fasts and also pay an expiation (kaffarah (definition)) of feeding one poor person for each day. This expiation is approximately one mudd of food (about 750 grams), and this is the view of the majority of scholars.
