What is the ruling on not completing the make-up fasting of two consecutive months from Ramadan after 12 years have passed?

The questioner must first repent for abandoning this pillar of Islam. He must make up for two months of Ramadan (definition) and feed sixty poor people for delaying the make-up fast.

If the questioner broke his fast during the day in Ramadan by intercourse, he must offer the expiation for intercourse (freeing a slave, or if he cannot find one, then fasting for two consecutive months, or if he is unable, then feeding sixty poor people). If his breaking of the fast was not by intercourse, he must make up the fast along with feeding one poor person for each day, as an expiation for delaying the make-up fast.

Fasting sixty days with the intention of expiation does not suffice for making up two months of Ramadan due to the absence of the intention of making up the fast, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Actions are but by intentions, and every man shall have but what he intended."
