If someone takes an oath and then breaks it without having made an exception, then an expiation () for the oath is incumbent upon them. The expiation for an oath is to feed ten poor persons with the average food one feeds one’s family, or to clothe them, or to free a slave. But if one cannot find [the means], then one must fast three days.
