How can one overcome arrogance and vanity, looking at women, and masturbation, taking into account attempts at fasting and the fear of losing this world and the hereafter due to lack of knowledge and temptations?
Allah Almighty commanded the avoidance of sin, both apparent and hidden. He forbade His servants from committing apparent and hidden sin, meaning both secretly and openly, those related to the body and limbs, and those related to the heart. A servant cannot abstain from apparent and hidden sins unless he knows them and seeks them out. Then, Allah Almighty informed that those who commit apparent and hidden sins will be recompensed according to their deeds. Examples of hidden sins include: arrogance, conceit, and self-admiration, and a person must strive against his soul to rid himself of them. As for apparent sins, they are like looking at women and masturbation. The best cure for the danger of lust is marriage. For those who cannot marry, they should fast repeatedly, as it curbs lust and cuts off the evil of desires.
