What is the ruling on a fasting person continuing to eat even during the Fajr adhan?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
The fasting person must stop eating and drinking at the break of dawn, regardless of whether the muezzin has called the or not. If one is certain that the adhan in their locality coincides with the break of dawn, then they must stop eating and drinking as soon as they hear it. Whoever eats during the adhan in this situation, their fast is invalid and they must make it up; because of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "Indeed, Bilal calls the adhan at night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktoum calls the adhan," and Ibn Umm Maktoum would not call the adhan until the break of dawn.
