The answer

If someone swears by Allah or by one of His attributes and then breaks their oath, they are required to offer an expiation (kaffarat ): feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or emancipating a slave. If they cannot afford any of these, then they must fast for three days. Swearing on the Qur’an is a way of emphasizing and reinforcing the oath, and the expiation becomes obligatory whether anyone knows about it or not.
