Is it permissible to hire a non-Muslim maid to care for an elderly Muslim mother?

There is no objection to hiring a non-Muslim maid to serve the mother, as evidenced by the Hadith (definition) narrated by Anas in Sahih (definition) al-Bukhari, where a Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The jurists have agreed on the permissibility of a non-believer serving a Muslim.

The non-Muslim maid must be prevented from spreading her religion or corrupt customs, while being keen to invite her to Islam and treat her kindly. However, hiring a Muslim maid is preferable and further removed from potential harms.
