Scholars have divided standing for an arriving person into three categories: forbidden if the arriving person is arrogant, disliked if he is not arrogant but there is fear that he might become arrogant, and permissible if it is for shaking hands or taking his hand. Standing for an arriving person with the intention of shaking hands and showing cheerfulness is a and a matter of good manners. However, if it is for glorification, then it is not permissible.
