What is the Islamic view on drinking a lot of water?

Drinking water is permissible, but excessive consumption of it is forbidden if it reaches the point of harming the body or being wasteful, for Allah Almighty says: "And eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess."
