The answer

There should be no compulsion for the sick to eat and drink, as it is narrated from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he said: "Do not force your sick on food, for Allah feeds them and gives them drink." This is because if the sick person loses appetite for food, it is due to their body being preoccupied with fighting the illness, or due to their weakened appetite. Exceptions to this are rare cases, such as a mentally incapacitated patient who may need to be forced to eat and drink. It is advisable to suffice with light, moderate foods that maintain strength, such as honey and black seed and the like.
