Is it permissible to eat a hedgehog?

Scholars have differed concerning the ruling on eating hedgehogs, and the most preponderant opinion is that it is permissible to eat them after ritual slaughter (tadhkiyah), because they are considered wholesome and are not among the impure things. Allah the Almighty said: "And He has already detailed for you what He has forbidden to you."
