What is the ruling on dealing with a relative who trades in alcohol, and accepting gifts (food, clothes, money) from him?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Selling alcohol and trading in it are forbidden. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed ten categories of people concerning alcohol, including its seller and the one who consumes its price. One must advise a relative to abandon this prohibited act.
As for accepting gifts and eating from their wealth: if all their wealth is illicit, then it is not permissible to accept their gifts or eat at their place, and one must dispose of what has been taken. However, if their wealth is mixed between lawful and unlawful, then it is permissible to eat and accept the gift, provided that it is not from the illicit substance itself.
