The answer

An animal born from two origins that differ in ruling, its ruling follows the one whose consumption is forbidden, regardless of whether the forbidden origin was male or female.

While some scholars hold that it follows its mother absolutely.

The more preponderant opinion is that of the Shafi’is and Hanbalis, which states that mules are absolutely forbidden to eat, due to the generality of the narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them), who said: "On the day of Khaybar, we slaughtered horses, mules, and donkeys. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade us from [eating] mules and donkeys, but he did not forbid us from [eating] horses."
