Hasad

Updated Sep 4, 2026

In plain terms

Hasad is envy: wishing that a blessing someone else has would be taken away from them. Several hadith treat a related feeling — wanting something similar for oneself, without wishing the other person harm — more leniently. The Qur'an describes hasad as something to seek refuge from.
