Is charitable work obligatory, and will 'Umrah and the reward of ختم القرآن (reciting the entire Qur'an) for the deceased who died of a drug overdose be accepted?

The person who died addicted to alcohol is subject to the apparent rulings of Muslims, including washing, praying over, and burying in Muslim cemeteries, provided that he died upon the religion of Islam. It is permissible to dedicate the reward of some good deeds to him, such as 'Umrah (definition), reciting the Qur'an, and charitable projects. However, his heirs are not obligated to perform 'Umrah on his behalf unless the deceased met the conditions for the obligation of Hajj and 'Umrah but did not perform them, in which case the heirs must pay from his money for someone to perform Hajj and 'Umrah on his behalf, provided that the proxy has already performed the obligation for himself. Drinking alcohol is a major sin.
