The answer

It is not permissible to perform Hajj or on behalf of a living person who is capable of performing them himself. As for the incapacitated, it is permissible to perform Hajj or Umrah on their behalf for the obligatory (Fardh) pilgrimage. However, scholars differ regarding its permissibility for the supererogatory (Nafl) pilgrimage. Some scholars hold that deputizing someone for Nafl is not valid, while others permit it for a living person who is incapacitated from performing them due to old age or an incurable illness, even if it is a Nafl pilgrimage.
