Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) clarified that the izar is permissible whether it is tied with a cord, sewn, or has pockets. He explained that the misconception among some common folk that anything sewn is forbidden is an error, for the consideration is not whether it is sewn, but rather the type of garment that is forbidden.
