The answer

A husband is not permitted to be absent from his wife for more than six months if she requests his return. If the questioner's absence is to accumulate money for Hajj, and he is not able to perform it, then he is not allowed to delay his return to his wife if she requests it, because fulfilling a condition for an obligation is not an obligation itself, whereas his return to her is obligatory. However, if he is able to perform Hajj and the time of his return coincides with the Hajj season, then he is permitted to go for Hajj even if it leads to his delay for more than six months, because this absence of his is due to a legitimate excuse.
