What is the ruling on the validity of Hajj if a man has intercourse with his wife after the first tahallul (partial desacralization) and before Tawaf al-Ifadah (the circumambulation of overflowing) due to his ignorance?
If intercourse occurs after the first 'tahallul' (partial desacralization) and before the ' al-Ifadah' (circumambulation of outpouring), the Hajj is not invalidated. However, a 'dam' (sacrifice of a sheep) is required from both spouses. They must also go to the 'hill' (area outside the boundaries) to re-enter and perform tawaf while in this state of ihram, because the ihram was invalidated by the intercourse. This is the view of the Hanbalis.
As for the Shafi'i , the Hajj remains valid, and there is no need to re-enter ihram; only a 'dam' (sacrifice of a sheep) is required from both spouses. If intercourse occurs after the Tawaf al-Ifadah, there is no consequence.
