Is communication via Messenger between a mixed work team (young men and women) to discuss project matters only, without delving into any other topics, considered a mistake?
Conversation between young men and women opens the door to fitna (temptation/strife) and may lead to what is (forbidden). Therefore, one of the objectives of (Islamic law) is to block the means (to evil). The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "I have not left behind me any fitna more harmful to men than women." Jurists have also prohibited speaking with a young woman without need. Al-Khadimi said: "Speaking with a young non- woman is not permissible without need, because it is a place of fitna." Hanbali and Shafi'i jurists have explicitly stated the impermissibility of exchanging greetings (salam) between a man and a young woman to prevent fitna. Therefore, conversation between young men and women via Messenger is absolutely not permissible, in order to cut off fitna.
