Is it permissible to wear makeup ("al-makiyaj") at wedding parties and similar occasions, or is it disliked and considered a custom of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), and is only kohl permitted?

Applying makeup and cosmetics to the face and displaying them to non-mahram (definition) men is impermissible and forbidden, unless the woman is with her female friends, or her husband and household. The preponderant opinion regarding kohl is that it is forbidden when appearing before non-mahram men. It must be noted that mixing with non-mahram men at weddings and similar events is forbidden. Therefore, it is not permissible for a woman to attend such weddings or any other occasions where there is mixing between women and men. A woman's mixing with non-mahram men is not permissible except under specific controls.
