What is the ruling on women wearing trousers designed for them, which are neither tight-fitting nor transparent, if the suspicion of imitating men is absent?

There is no harm in a woman wearing trousers under her jilbab (outer garment) or if they are wide, neither describing (the body) nor transparent, provided that this is in front of her husband, her mahrams (unmarriageable kin), or Muslim women. However, in front of non-mahram (definition) men or disbelieving women, it is not permissible, because trousers—even if loose—distinguish one leg from the other and do not achieve the complete required covering. Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned that distinguishing one leg from another with trousers indicates a lack of complete covering. The prohibition of displaying adornment in front of a disbelieving woman is explained by the fear that she might describe it to her disbelieving husband.
