The answer

"Depression is sadness and sorrow, and it can afflict a Muslim just like anyone else. Nothing afflicts a Muslim of worry, sorrow, or harm, except that Allah expiates some of his sins by it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sought refuge from the hardships of travel and the sorrow of return. Depression can be a result of a worldly calamity, and its cure is patience and recourse to Allah, or it can be a result of sins, and its cure is seeking forgiveness, repentance, and returning to Allah."
