Is avoiding meeting someone who caused a previous sensitivity considered a forbidden abandonment, knowing that the meeting does not involve offense or dispute, and the other party may also not wish to meet?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The majority of scholars are of the opinion that the forbidden abandonment (hajr) ceases with merely offering greetings (salaam) upon meeting. The forbidden abandonment is the act of a man refraining from speaking to his brother when they meet, with each turning away from the other and abandoning the salaam. Therefore, avoiding meeting the woman is not a forbidden abandonment as long as you do not abandon offering salaam to her if you meet her.
