The question

How can a woman abandon the dominance of her emotions and feminine way of thinking to reach the mature thinking of a man, and should she read to achieve that? Is there hope for a woman to stop excessive talk, backbiting, and slander? And is a woman subordinate to a man because Adam was created first?

The answer

Women are the sisters of men in terms of religious obligations, reward, and punishment. A man's intellect is not superior to a woman's simply because he is a man. Both women and men include the righteous and the unrighteous. Allah Almighty says: "So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard." And He says: "Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you – submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, traveling [in obedience to Allah], previously married and virgins." Thinking about these matters is a waste of time. It is more fitting to turn to what benefits one in religion and in this world. The creation of Eve from Adam does not absolutely mean her subservience to him; she has her independent personality. The guardianship (Qawamah) of men is a guardianship of arrangement and management, not one of domination and humiliation.
