How can one atone for swearing by the Qur’an to quit smoking, while experiencing pain and suppression of desire, and being unable to sleep?

Filial piety is an obligation, and the command to quit smoking is a righteous act because smoking is harmful and forbidden. Swearing by the Qur’an to quit smoking is a binding oath, and a Muslim who breaks it commits two sins: doing what is forbidden (smoking) and breaking an oath. An expiation for the oath (kaffarat yamin (definition)) is required of him. The expiation for an oath is feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If one cannot find any of these, then fasting for three days.
