What should be done about a 13-year-old brother who wakes up at night and hallucinates, engaging in unconscious behaviors such as trying to leave the house or hitting his mother, in addition to abandoning prayer?
The following is recommended:
Advise your brother to observe the remembrance of sleep (adhkar an-nawm), and the morning and evening remembrances (adhkar as-sabah wal-masa’).
Treat him with shar'iyyah (Islamic exorcism/healing).
Encourage him towards righteous deeds and prayer, and explain to him its ruling and the danger of abandoning it.
Seek help in convincing him by using hadiths that encourage prayer and warn against abandoning it, which are found in books such as Riyad al-Salihin and al-Targhib wal-Tarhib.
Gather for him beneficial printed pamphlets, letters, and tapes for him to read and listen to.
Increase your supplication for him, and advise your mother to supplicate for him, as the supplication of a parent for their child is answered.
