The answer

We have permitted tooth filling or repair for a broken tooth or one that has been hollowed out by decay, because it is permissible as a form of treatment and a restoration of the mouth's original condition. This differs from the other in which we prohibited altering creation for cosmetic purposes, relying on the words of Al-Tabari, who stipulated the impermissibility of changing anything in creation, whether by addition or subtraction, in pursuit of beauty.
