It is permissible to participate in cooperative medical schemes if the deducted amounts are by way of donation. Otherwise, it is a prohibited form of (excessive uncertainty or risk) and is not permissible unless it is obligatory. It is also permissible to sell the medicine after receiving it, or to exchange it for other medicines or beneficial items, because the employee takes possession of the medicine upon authorization of its disbursement, provided that the disbursement authorization does not violate Islamic law or is not based on fraud.
